2 ‘Azamat (Grandeur)
May 17 - May 18
An event every year that begins at 18:00 on day 17 of May, repeating indefinitely
Today’s daily reflection is one that is near and dear to my heart. These two passages speak volumes to me. I am one of those that, even with all my limitations, do all I can with loving devotion to the Faith. My heart is filled with immense love for Baha’u’llah and I try with all my being to do the things I do with nothing but the best and honest intentions. I push myself past all the voices within that tell me that I am not good enough and that I should give up and that I am not one that deserves or is knowledgeable enough to share this Faith, this Gift, with anyone. Then, I read such statements as these and am reassured that I am. Even when others try to find fault with my efforts or assign intentions that are not even remotely on my mind or in my heart – I push onward. In the “Seven Valleys”, Baha’u’llah speaks of the various steeds that assist us on our journey through the different valleys and is mentioned in the last passage I have included here – I have selected this image for that reason. We are never alone. We have within us gifts (attributes) that are in need of development – like seeds planted within us, waiting to be nurtured, cared for, watered and fed. We each possess such gifts with varying capacities; never underestimate yourself and the Abha Kingdom that awaits for us to become hollow reeds so that spirit can move within us and through us.
“If only the friends could realize it, the glory of our Faith is not that people with unique abilities do the work of the Cause, but that it is done by the sacrifice of loving and devoted souls who arise selflessly to undertake work they feel themselves incompetent, sometimes, to achieve. God works through them and endows them with gifts they did not dream they could ever possess.”
(Shoghi Effendi, Quickeners of Mankind, p. 67)
“Wherefore, look not on the degree of your capacity, ask not if you are worthy of the task: rest ye your hopes on the help and loving-kindness, the favours and bestowals of Bahá’u’lláh—may my soul be offered up for His friends! Urge on the steed of high endeavour over the field of sacrifice, and carry away from this wide arena the prize of divine grace.”
(Abdu’l-Baha, Selections from the Writings of Abdu’l-Baha, p. 23)
